About Buckhead Ridge
The settlement got its name from catfishermen who fished the surrounding waters. “The cypress trees grew out on the lake (Okeechobee) shore and looked like a deer’s head. They called it Buckhead and it was a landmark for fishermen.” Pearce went on to develop a subdivision there and called it Buckhead Ridge.
